New Name For NewsChannel 8 - 7/23 - Sinclair, which owns Channel 7/WJLA, is planning to rename WJLA's cable-only sister, NewsChannel 8, as "WJLA 24/7 News." Staffed by WJLA's newsroom, including the ABC affiliate's reporting and anchor teams, "the new name is a logical brand evolution for the nearly 30-year-old Washington-area cable news institution," according to a Monday news release. The name change becomes effective tomorrow, Tuesday. "Plus, the new WJLA 24/7 News brand adds emphasis to the station's commitment to the round-the-clock local news coverage it is known for." The release continues, "As part of the station's continued commitment to local news, traffic and weather coverage, the new WJLA 24/7 News will feature a highly graphical, richly informative continuous newsfeed, showcasing detailed community forecasts, helpful commute conditions, and concise local headlines"...
