If you're familiar with the historic Car Barn structures throughout the city, you may be interested in plans for a brand new facility on 26th and Benning Road, NE. According to dcstreetcar.com, the newly-constructed building will serve as the maintenance facility for the first streetcars to operate in DC for more than 50 years. The Car Barn Training Center (CBTC), which will eventually include the former Spingarn High School, will encompass approximately 15,000 square feet.

The 2.4 mile H/Benning Road Line is now projected to be finished in 2014. Eventually, the streetcar system plans to include 37 miles throughout all eight wards of the city.
